Did you know Pagsanjan has a rich historical and cultural background? According to Concepcion (2019), Pagsanjan gained independence from Lumban in 1668 and was only granted full parish status only in 1687. The Spanish government transferred the capital of Laguna from the old pueblo of Bai (or Bay) to the pueblo of Pagsanjan in the same year that the parish of Pagsanjan was established. The municipality was the capital of the province of Laguna for 170 years (from 1688 to 1858), during which the town prospered as the commercial, cultural, and learning center of the province. It is now considered the "Tourist Capital of Laguna" and is famous for the Pagsanjan Falls and the Bangkero Festival.
